Wasi Ahmed to receive Sylhettoday-Utsho Prokashon Literary Award

Sylhettoday24.com and Utsho Prokashon launched a literary award to encourage creative writing in Bangla.

Acclaimed Bengali Novelist Wasi Ahmed to receive the award at a program at Spicy Conference Hall in Sylhet on Thursday at 6:00 pm.

Language Fighter and Emeritus Professor Md. Abdul Aziz will preside in the award giving programme.

Wasi Ahmed was born at Naiorpul area in Sylhet city on October 31, 1954. After his primary and secondary level education in Sylhet, he completed his college and higher education at Dhaka College and Dhaka University respectively.

Novelist Wasi Ahmed’s first published writing was a poem, ‘Shobjatri Swajan’, published when he was a student. He started writing short stories in early nineties and his first published short story is ‘Chayadhondi and Onnanyo’ in 1992.

Wasi Ahmed’s first published novel is ‘Meghpahar’, which published in 2000. Among his published books-- Bok O Bansful, Kalashnikover Golap, Trisimana, Tepantorer Sanko, Singa Bajabe Israfil, Tolkuthurir Gaan etc are notable.

For his contribution in Bangla literature, Wasi Ahmed received Jemcon Literary Award 2010 for story collection Trishimana, Prothom Alo Book of the Year Award 2012 for story collection Kalashnikover Golap.

He also received IFIC Bank Literary Award 2015 and Akhtaruzzaman Elias Book of the Year Award 2015 for the novel Tolkuthurir Gaan.
